Hqplayer | Equalizer

Each EQ band consumes CPU. Adding 15 bands of IIR is fine on a modern i7. Adding 15 bands of linear-phase FIR can cause stuttering at DSD256.

For the casual listener who wants a bass boost button, no. The HQPlayer equalizer is overkill.

One of the features that distinguishes HQPlayer's equalizer from most others is its ability to choose the phase response of the EQ filters. In most standard software, EQs are minimum-phase filters, which introduce a frequency-dependent phase shift that can subtly smear the timing and clarity of transients. However, HQPlayer gives you the option to use parametric EQs, which preserve the phase relationship of the original recording. The trade-off is that linear-phase filters introduce a bit of latency, as they need to "look ahead" at the audio. This is generally not a problem for local file playback but can be an issue for real-time content like video games or live monitoring. hqplayer equalizer

HQPlayer supports both parametric equalization (via configuration files) and graphic equalization (via the Matrix pipeline).

Each EQ band consumes CPU

HQPlayer features a sophisticated DSP engine that provides precise control over equalization through its Convolution

What are you using? (e.g., headphones, stereo speakers, multi-channel setup) For the casual listener who wants a bass boost button, no

Clean, tight bass without muddying the midrange.

The results are worth the effort. The combination of surgical parametric EQ, ultra-linear convolution filters, and world-class upsampling, all contained within a single software suite, is an experience that is simply impossible to achieve with consumer hardware or other players. You are given the tools to hear every instrument with spatial precision, to tame your room's flaws without destroying your music's soul, and to finally listen to your favorite recordings as the artists intended, free from the limitations of your equipment's default settings.
