Conceived by creator Ruxandra Ion, the series was ambitious from the start, being the first Romanian telenovela filmed and broadcast in full HD. The story centers on the forbidden love between Ilinca, a modern Romanian woman, and Amir, a sheikh from the fictional Emirate of Beled el Nur. It explores their struggle against deep-seated prejudices, religious differences, and the ever-present threat of honor killing—a practice, still common in some Arab states, where a woman is murdered by her own family for allegedly bringing shame upon them.
