One of the film's greatest assets is its surprisingly strong cast. It features Tye Sheridan, who would go on to star as Cyclops in the X-Men film series, in the lead role as Ben. Logan Miller and Joey Morgan provide excellent comedic support as his best friends, with Morgan's Augie serving as the film's moral (and utterly nerdy) compass. The film also marks an early role for the late, great Cloris Leachman, who brings her signature scene-stealing energy to the role of Miss Fielder.
We are then introduced to our unlikely heroes: the world-weary Ben (Tye Sheridan), the cynical Carter (Logan Miller), and the eternally enthusiastic Augie (Joey Morgan). As they embark on what they believe will be their final campout as a scout troop, their plans for a quiet night are shattered. Ben and Carter ditch the campsite to sneak into a rave, and when they return to a town in chaos, they find it overrun with the living dead. Their only allies are the scoutmaster's spirited protégé, Augie, and a sharp-tongued, zombie-killing cocktail waitress named Denise (Sarah Dumont), whom they meet in an unexpectedly zombie-filled strip club.
